hey all, Picked up a Colonial Shur Snap cheap that won't stay closed,
Any good way to pull the scales off without breaking them?
and....any ideas what I'll have to do to fix it?
Never had one apart....

I've got two that should make a good one once I get around to working on them. If no one has posted a tutorial before then, we'll find out what makes them tick in a couple of weeks.

ok..
they were made so cheaply it's a wonder they lasted this long.
Not sure but looks like the scales snap off but will
probably break from being brittle

I just received a third one in a trade. The spring is very weak and the top of the backspring is broken so the blade goes well past the normal open position. I did take the bolster pins out of one and discovered that those cheap/thin scales go all the way, end to end, under them. That's all I've done for now, but plan to start taking pictures when I really start to work on them so maybe we can figure them out together. Chances are I'll have some parts left over that will help you with yours also.
