Ever seen this?

About 4 years ago I was in the woods when I tripped over this knife. I have taken it to a couple knife shops and antique dealers but no one is sure of the make. We have come to the conclusion that it must be custom made but it is extremely hardend steel, very well balanced, and very well crafted. Although we are unsure of what type of steel was used for the blade it was tested at a hardness level of 63-64 rc. The sheath which perfectly fits is thick leather and looks pretty aged. The blade and guard have similar markings whch appear to be a J and W or W and J. If anyone has seen similar markings or knows of the maker please repost. If it helps I found it in western Ny.

My apologies first. Took some liberties with your photos.
I think that may be a T with a w inside. I think the engraver had problems working on the rounded surface of guard. Seems like I have seen that mark before. Who knows maybe I'll have an epiphany and remember.
Regardless, you have a really nice knife.

I keep looking at this knife trying to think of who it is but no clue. It does however remind me of some of the south Am. makers style. Is it carbon or stainless, and where on the knife was the R test taken?

Ken,
Your question may get lost in this particular thread trying to identify a found knife.
But, I'll say, in my opinion, about the auction you posted a question...the seller seems to be referring to a box or storage
case...not the brand name
Case. I don't believe
Case has any knives made in China, at least not yet.
Scottspark2000...I wish I could help you, but I can't find any information on that marking.

hey scott, neat find. i think the initials were put on by someone other than the maker.
ken a lot of ebay sellers add the word "case" to their titles for search reasons. people looking for case brand are directed to the non case brand knives in hopes of making a sale.
i may be wrong but i think the "german steel" used by the chinese supposedly comes from the hen and rooster factory. somebody correct me if i'm misinformed.
