Where have all the Germans gone?

Good morning 8) everyone. I have pondered this question for some time now. Germany and Solingen in particular has a long and distinguished reputation for making quality knives. e.g., Henckels goes back to the early 1700s. Why is it that we see so few old German knives around? Or am I not looking in the right place? Any facts, theories or wild speculation happily considered. :) s-k

They are around, I have see them at my knife club meetings. However, why would anyone want to sell them on eBay? ::doh:: Ebay is a double edged sword. They made knives readily available so that you could put a good collection together in a few years that would otherwise take a lifetime. The downside is that as knives became more readily available, prices have fallen. With that in mind, why would anyone sell those older highly prized knives on eBay? On those you are lucky to get 50% of value, if that. Also, everyone I know is not willing to part with those old knives, they would rather have the knife than the money.

Hukk is not willing to part with those old knives, He would rather have the knife than the money. I know this to be very true when it comes to him. ::tounge:: I still want one of yours. ::huff::

I for one am willing to sell or trade some of my knives because my love for others is stronger. The more I collect the more I want. I learn so much here. That my wants change too. We all do not have a knife allowance like some people do Hukk. Like the last set you received. Witch I think was super too. I love looking at yours and others but if I could have them. Then I think I would be happier too. This is life and we do the best we all can right. I do not want to anger You cuz I still want one of your knives
