Yeah I gave props to the guy who said don't bid it is a FAKE but some folks never learn A nd whoever paid that for that knife is in a bad state of affairs.

I used to dabble in the registered cattle business. It was a relatively common practice among some of the top end breeders to sell an animal at auction for greatly inflated prices. Usually two or three bidders would run the sale price sky high and eventulally one would be the proud winner of the bidding and supposedly the new owner of the animal.
What sometimes in fact took place was that the entire bidding process for that animal was in reality a staged event intended to exagerate the value of that particular bloodline and hopefull dupe the unsuspecting into placing much higher bids than they might otherwise have made on comparable animals, often offered up for sale by the same breeder that had just sold one for an astronomical price. Interestingly some of these top selling animals never got transfered to the new owner, or more often the case, at a subsequent auction the roles would be reversed and the guy who was previously the seller of a high dollar animal would be the buyer of an equally inflatedly priced animal sold by the same person who had bought his top seller a few weeks prior. (the old tit for tat scenerio)
I strongly suspect that similar games are played out in the knife world as well. If you think about it, it is an effective, if unscrupulious way to inflate prices and eventually spring the trap shut on the gullible. Don't believe everything you see and don't believe every auction you witness is what it appears to be.

I have tried similar tactics on ebay to dissuade and alert potential buyers of fakes, but it's almost like the reader thinks you are doing so to gain some sort of advantage over him for the knife (dis-information) in a sense.

Unfortunately......................the best way for some buyers to be "learned" is to be burned. There is no easy fix.................

To add to this, I think when you see a knife which is questionable, spend a little time going back through the sellers history and see if this is a pattern. I have done this most everytime I see a sellers knife questioned in this forum. After reviewing the types and brands and prices, its is pretty easy to see when a seller is on the up and up. Also when you see a buyer who pays high dollar for a "bad" knife, look at his purchasing history and see IF he should have known better. I tend to agree with the previous writer who mentioned the "prize" cattle...The "prize" comes in when a "sucker" comes along with more money than brains and they are quick to relieve him of his money and pat him on the back in congratulations of his "fine" purchase...
