All About Pocket Knives

I recently acquired a cleaver which has a stamping of "CASES" on one line and under that "TESTED XX". I have seen a similar stamping identified as being used from 1940 - 1950 but that stamp had an apostrophe in the "CASE'S" which the cleaver does not.

Unfortunately, I don't have a digitial camera or pictures but it has a wooden handle (light wood such as maple) with brass rivets. The steel is about 3/32" thick.

Any information would be much appreciated.

It is my understanding that you have a nice collectable. I have seen several of these in antique malls located near Bradford PA. I am not positive but I believe your item would be towards the latter part of your dates. The ones I saw were selling for $30 to $50, but that was last year also. The popularity of related CASE items has seen a large increase and I predict will continue to do so. Nice find, keep an eye out for me. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I did happen to see one like the one I have sell on EBAY for $37 if I recall.

I mainly bought it because it is a nice cleaver and the steel is of good quality. I wasn't sure of the authenticity of the stamp, as I mentioned, similar stamps had the apostrophe in CASE'S which my cleaver doesn't.

That it is a CASE was a bonus. I bought it with a few other items for $40 at a flae market.
