is there any way to remove smoke stains caused by a recent house fire. most of my old carbon steerl blades are stained where blades are exposed above the frame. ive tried lighter fluid, semi-chrome, flitz and mineral spirits. no luck. any help would be appreciated.

can you post some pictures, what you describe sounds more like the results of an outgassing celluloid handle.

I have had good success using Walker Wax and a fair amount of elbow grease.
I have not found a spray on solution.
The knives all had a thick patina of smoke/tar or something all over the blades and handles.
I don't know what you can do with the sheaths except throw them away.
