All About Pocket Knives

i had recently picked up a handfull of cammillius,s off ebay, one was a 69 pattern, that said deluxe stockman on the blade, was curious if any one had one,id like to find a near mint one for a good carry knife, this one is prety fair shape but been used a bunch, it was super sharp when i recvied it, carbon blades, do they come up very often ? is there a way to date camillius,s has a line above new york, if that means anything ? thanks.

The 69 patterns come up regularly on Ebay. The problem is, most of them have delrin handles. If you don't care about that, you should be able to pick up a mint one for $20-30.

The Camillus with the underline comes in two flavors, the short underline and the full underline. The short underline was used in the '40's thru 1950 and the long underline was used after that, if memory serves.

iam guessing short underline ? i have another cammilius that goes all the way under the cammillius name, the 69 pattern is not that long, and i think this one has bone handles, i couldnt belive how hair poping sharp it was, must have pretyy good steel in em.

just noticed, it has some file work on the liner, was that factory on them ??

All the ones I have (3) have the milled liners. This milling consists of a short milled length followed by a longer straight section followed by a short milled length etc.

By the way, I think the short underline knives have bone handles whereas the long underline are usually, but not always, delrin.

Two questions; what is the length of a "69",

I don't have a picture, however, there is one on Ebay, do a search for "camillus 69" and it will pop up. The knife is a slim stockman with a "Turkish" clip type master, 4 inches long. It is generally (and maybe originally always) etched with the "DeLuxe Stockman" etch and it always(?) has the milled liners.

The only pic I had handy of a Camillus #69 is a well used bone handles one.
At least you get the idea.

A picture is worth a thouand words and orvet's picture proves that once again. You can see the milled liner perfectly when you blow the picture of the backspring up. It's a little harder to see, but comparing the 69 with the picture of the 67 at the bottom, you might be able to see that the 69 pattern is a little slimmer than a normal Camillus stockman.

I can't tell if there is the ghost of an etch on the 69.

Also, I notice that orvet's 69 pattern is a long underline. It's a little unusual to see those in bone, most of them are delrin. Probably, they started producing them in bone and then switched to delrin sometime during the use of that tang stamp.

cbnutt, that looks like a pretty nice buy. A nice selection of Camillus stockmen, with a 72 thrown in for good measure. Really not bad for $10 and change per knife.

yea there were actualy 6 knifes when they arived, and the 6th was also a camillius ! dont remember the pattern number, but it was a 2 bladed jack, plastic handles, alreay sold it, worked out to about $8.33 a knife free shipping.

The first model #69's appeared in 1946 and had bone handles. The milled linings were used on this knife until the mid 1970's when this operation was discontinued. The model #69 was made in later years with Delrin handles.

After seeing Dale's pictures, I had to get one. Mine is actually a bit more worn than the one he shows, has delrin scales with a missing shield, and possibly some soft springs (but the oil is still pulling dirt out of the joints, so we'll see).

Generally speaking, I don't like the stockman pattern. When using the main blade, the back of the sheepsfoot tends to rub a nerve in my finger. This one seems to avoid that problem. I spent about 20 minutes carving bamboo with the main blade, then 10 or so more using the sheepsfoot. No pain, no numbness.

Soon as I find one in better condition, and with bone handles, I suspect it will displace my 194OT as an EDC.
