I sent three Bulldog Anglo-Saxon knives to Michael Prater and I also sent the new handle materials with the knives. I hand picked the mammoth tooth from eBay, The white interior mammoth ivory from Bayan Bay, and the Black Lip Pearl I got from Elen Hunting & Importing Inc. By selecting my own quality materials, I got exactly what I wanted. Mr. Prater's craftsmanship far exceeded my expectations. First a few picures of a 3 blade Black Lip Pearl then a 5 and 3 blade Mammoth Tooth and Ivory combination. The knives with ivory will go on to be scrimshawed. He also stamped each as a Proto and provided a COA. I enjoyed working with Mr Prater and I think he felt the same way. He wants me to call Tuesday and let him know what I think about the knives, I'm sure he already knows the answer.
I always seem to get good results by working closely with knife makers, but always allow them a lot of freedom, don't tie down their creativity but have certain results discussed beforehand.

Here is the 3 blade and one of the 5 blade to show the file work. That is some of the whitest interior mammoth ivory I've seen, Mr. Prater commented on that and I told him that I got it at Banyan Bay.

Here is the 5 blade, Mr. Prater had good things to say about the tooth, full of natural color. I mention that because some sellers of tooth are experimenting with artificially colored mammoth tooth. I think he did a great job! Now the Ivory goes for scrimshaw.

Since I'm a diver, mermaids seem to fit. Never seen one yet, but I keep looking. Actually,my wife is my mermaid, she's a good woman and wife.
