All About Pocket Knives

Alright ,knifeman79 here . This is a long shot In the dark.I Picked up this knife for three dollars at a yard sell from a seventy year old man,the blade says Camillus,with one line under it then NewYork.That's all pretty much it appears there are some numbers under the new york but I can't make all them out. I know its a barlow put being ignorant in any thing not case I need your help. Please enlighten me on any rep. Information Thanks Knife79. Is it even worth the three dollars I spent on it?

Its called an electricians knife
and pretty common to find
its worth more than the $3.00 you paid but not much
you can get them all day on ebay for between 10.00 and 20.00 in slightly used condition
its a nice toolbox knife and camillus made one of the better ones in my opinion and its a tough durable knife

The knife is actually classified as a jack knife and is a TL-29 and has been issued by the US military in a couple different forms (yours is the latter version) since WWI.

TL-29 stands for TOOL, LINESMANS, #29.
The TL-29 was issued originally to linemen in the US Army Signal Corp in WWI. I am not sure the nomenclature was the same, but the 3-3/8" knife evolved into what we know today as the TL-29. The earlier version also had a locking screwdriver blade, but to release it you pressed down on the closed spear blade.

The current version (3-3/4”) was adopted in the 1930s and has remained the same since. Other branches of the military have adopted the TL-29 for applications besides for just linesmen. I was issued one in the Marine Corps as an Aviation Mechanic in 1971. I carried it through Vietnam and even managed to hang on to it when I was medevaced home.

Camillus probably made more of them than any other company. They made them for Case, M. Klein, under both the Sears and Craftsman brands, Schrade and for many other companies.

They are a great tool and are a well-made knife. The ones made by Camillus have very good steel in the blades.

There is much more to tell about the TL-29, but this is a start.

I still pick them up whenever I see em. I dont know why but I do. I just came across this Kingston for 2 bucks.

Thanks murph, I dont know what they are I just threw it in the box with the other 30 or so other electricians I have. I am gonna dig it out tomorrow and see. I never thought it might be that.
