Been carrying this GEC Wharncliffe Melon Tester/Whittler in Primitive Bone for about a week. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS KNIFE!!!!! I'll admit to originally being turned off by the Melon Tester/Whittler with the spear main blade and handle offerings(Pumpkin Patch Acrylic, Goldenrod smooth and jigged bone and 2nd cut Stag). The Wharncliffe main blade, pinched and grooved bolsters and Primitive Bone scales make this a completely different knife.

The fit and finish of this knife is excellent. The blades have a nice pleasant snap yet they're not too hard to open. The coping/sheepsfoot and pen blade have half-stops and the main wharncliffe does not. My only complaint was the butter knife factory edge on all blades. This was probably the dullest GEC knife I've ever received. I reprofiled the edges and brought them to shaving sharp with my Sharpmaker in just a few minutes. IMO this is the first GEC that nicely addresses the mid size category. Not too big or too small and the slim design makes it quite pocket friendly. It's still beefy enough to feel like a GEC, yet it looks and carries more like a refined gentleman's knife. The Wharncliffe is wicked, POINTY and sharp on this knife! :D

The Primitive Bone Melon Tester isn't listed on the GEC website New Release Page. Anybody have an idea how many were produced? Mine is serial #3.

I think this Melon Tester/Whittler beats out my GEC Wharncliffe Jack in smooth white bone as my favorite knife.

That primitive bone is very pretty, like a mixture of pearl & ivory. Good job with the photos also! ::tu::

Hard to put it away, but I had to give my GEC #73 in Grizzly Cut Bone(see avatar) some pocket time.

Thanks for the hand shot augustus! This helps a lot when considering size. I'm looking at one of these from Mike right now and now I know what to do. ::nod::
