Believe I saw an Ulster four blade scout/utility recently.

Cattaraugus57, I've got a couple of the camp knives--they're fairly easy to find. (OK, I've got four or five, including two or three that are too nice for me to hand over to my scouts. That doesn't mean I collect scout knives Philco, it just means I have no self control. Somebody help me, I have a knife problem . . . ) Fairly good workers, though I've come to prefer a Western or a WWII-vintage engineers knife. The most common flaw seems to be missing bails on otherwise near-mint specimens.

The stock knife is a bit harder to find in good condition, but working specimens are fairly easy to locate. A lot of the one's I've run across are tipped; I suspect they were given to kids who abused the heck out of them.

Before I collected knives I collected tobacco tins.
One thing a tin collector looks for is variations in the tins, just like knife collectors look for variations in knives.

So far I have only found two different printings of the Prince Albert/Ulster knife offer.
The back of both tins are the same, but the fronts are different.

It is a fun set to chase. The camper is the hardest one to find.



There is also a can with the same offer from Imperial.

Of the four items required to make a set, the can seems to be the most affordable and common.

I lucked out and bought my set from the factory collection:

Bob: You have unique handles on the camper knife. Usually they are the browner delrin. Yours looks the same color as the Barlow. Tighter jigging pattern too.

Not sure if the jigging is different, or the scanner reflections are causing an optical allusion.

The Delrin is very dark though, like a black-brown. Along the edge of the bolster it lightens to a dark brown.

The hardest for me to find was the papers needed to get the knives. I think I still have two
papers. If anyone needs a can "PM" me.

Let me make the "chase" a little harder . Believe it or not , there is also a 2 blade stockman (also an Ulster). I didn't believe it when an old timer collector asked me to find him one but 4 years later I found one in near mint condition and one in poor shape . I haven't seen one since , but I'm still looking .

There were also two different Ulster Old Timer Barlow knives. But neither the second Barlow nor the two-blade stockman were part of the tobacco promotion.

I did find one Imperial version of the 58OT.



It can get addicting, chasing those Prince Albert knives. They come in all shades of red and brown!!!!

That two bladed jack is a 50OT, and probably has bone handles and milled springs too. Still looking for one of those.

I've seen all sorts of factory mis-matched blades on Old Timer knives. But that's the first Imperial blade I've seen on one.

Here are a couple pics of my 50OT.
I know of 2 or 3 of them and they all have bone handles.
Mine happens to have a crack in the bone.

The third pic is a 58OT with Imperial's famous shell handles.
Why they put shell handles on this knife, I have no clue.
I also doubt that many were sent out as Prince Albert knives, or they would be more common.
Perhaps this was someone's experiment or they made a few to see how they would look & sell.
