All About Pocket Knives

I received my new issue of Knife World today and inside was Queens ad for Series XX. Pictured are six knives, five are Bourbon Reversed Worm Groove Jig Bone & one Mother of Pearl Doctor's knife. The ad states "After Two Decades The Keystone Shield Series Will Be Retired!" The five bone patterns are A) 4-1/4" Straight Moose.B) 3-1/2" Medium Coke Bottle. C) 3-3/4" Rail Splitter Whittler. D)3-1/4" Gentlemen's Muskrat. E) 3-3/4" Five blade Sowbelly. The Mother of Pearl is a 3-3/4" Signature Bolster Dr. Knife. The blades on the five bone handled knives are "Old Style high satin blade finish" Set includes a engraved "20th Anniversary" Display Case. The Bourbon Bone looks like a real winner. I'm a little disappointed that there are only six knives in this set and why not add a Stag handled knife or two to this THE 20th! and LAST set. I thought for the last of the series sets that Queen could have done better than another Mother of Pearl handled Doctor's knife?

I guess I should be happy that they still offer a series set at all.I'll have to wait on Clarence's box to arrive at my door to really get to know the 20th Anniversary Set.

My copy finally surfaced so I could get a look. And I gotta say I'm really looking forward this set. IF the bone comes out looking as good as the pictures. It will be nice set.
I do really like the choice of patterns this time around.
I think it will be a good seller.
But I'll bet cash, money that this is not the last annual set that Queen puts out under the S&M stamp. This will just be the last set they make with the Keystone shield.

Yes, they got a few sets out early. Still needing to fill the sowbelly and coke numbers.

I am a little disappointed in the blade finishes. They are satin instead of mirror, to keep the price points I guess.

so..... am i the only one who thought queen really stunk it up with the last couple of s&m series?
i was particularly looking forward to this one, given the excellent choice of patterns, but the crappy blade finish, the crappy bone choice, the highly unpredictable bone color....
i really though this "final keystone series" would be awesome, but they seemed to have gone out with a whimper.
i sure hope future s&m releases will be much, MUCH more impressive than the last couple of year's worth.
even the sfo's have been weak lately.

I have been wondering the same thing mito0 I did not buy last years set as I wasn't impressed with choice of patterns or the bone. But I was looking forward to the XX set, what a big let down. I ended up sending the set back. As you said the "satin" blade finish was terrible, the blade etch was the worst I've ever seen on any knife. it was all blotchy with large chunks missing. The F/F was defiantly not up to par, I had 2 knives that the inlet for the shield was awful & 1 with bone to bolster gaps. I even had 1 knife that had blue tips on the blade from over heating on final grind. I have never seen such shoddy workmanship on a S&M set. With the exception of the F&W series it seems Queen has really dropped the ball when it comes to the Schatt & Morgan line.
I don't know, maybe the big shots at Servitronics (however you spell it) are concentrating on something else.

Dave you almost had it, it's Servotronics. mitoO, Servotronics bought Queen Cutlery in 1969. By buying Queen Cutlery (who owned the Schatt & Morgan, and Queen City brand names) they also got the Schatt & Morgan and Queen City brand names in the buy. Servotronics had bought Ontario Cutlery in 1967, so Queen Cutlery became a sister company to Ontario Cutlery. Ontario Cutlery bought the Robeson Cutlery brand name in 1971. That has Servotronics owning all of those brand names. I can't remember for sure, but I believe Servotronics owned the Rigid brand name at one time also, or they made Rigid brand knives under contract at the Queen factory. PA would know for sure. I haven't held any of the new XX series Schatt & Morgan knives but I sure hate to hear that there are problems with quality coming from Queen Cutlery. Their Schatt & Morgan knives were a quality standard to measure the other brands. I hope they get any problems fixed and make quality knives like they are known for.

queen/schatt & morgan has been my knife of choice for many years.
i have been totally unimpressed with their products for the past two years.
they'd better get it figured out soon, or they're going to lose a customer.

Could it be that GEC is cutting in on their custmors?

Think about how many GEC knives you see in AAPK being shown.

I am sure that some of that money was going to the S&Ms in the past.

The company should invest their time into their customers. Look at Case and GEC they are involved with their customers. By being more open and thankful I think that they could be getting more customers. Ive called the Titusville factory before and everytime I get cold responses to my questions. I love my Queens and S&M but I dont have the respect for their company as much as Case or GEC. In my opinion I think its always good to thank your customers in some way.

I wish Queen would be more involved with there customers! I would maybe buy a knife from the new set but I'm a little weary due to some of the threads I'm reading!

I recently saw some of the XX knives at a recent knife show and they really looked nice.
