According to David Krauss Ph.D in his book American Pocketknives.
Queen City Cutlery was incorporated in 1922 the company changed it's name to Queen Cutlery in 1946. In 1947 they registered the term "Queen Steel" it is their blend of 440A just like CV is Case's blend of carbon steel. Queen was the 1st cutlery company in United States to use stainless steel in their production pocket knives. And like anything new stainless was not well received by the public. So after a few years Queen dropped the stainless tang stamp & went with Queen Steel in an effort to gain market share.

For a few years Queen didn't use a tang stamp, just a blade etch. I'm not sure what pattern #3 is, but the Mountain Man is #3L. To judge the quality you would have to compare it to other Queen knives. But they do have a good reputation as far quality/fit&finish for a US made production knife.

Actually Queen used 440C as their blade steel up to the late 70's. I have a factory letter from Queen from 1976 that states that the blade steel used is 440C. I have also seen a few Queen knives where the 440C was included in the blade etch. I believe that by about 1980 they had changed to 440A and the blade etches just said 440 Stainless.

Can you show to use the US made production knife? It makes me interested.
