I can hear the horses in the distance...Nice looking knives....A couple of questions..Johnnie I notice there are no shields on this model knife was that standard with most of them?

And James I noticed the shield on your knife looks a little different than your standard Case shield what kind of shield is that??

Sunburst, I'm pretty sure my toothpick is an SFO for Smokey Mountain Knifeworks and that is why it has the XX shield. I could be wrong though. I bought the knife on eBay so I really don't know the history of it.

hey sunburst, thanks. the smooth appaloosa with the A prefix pattern # had no shields. don't know why.

'cuz that's the way Case made them. There were 5 patterns of Appaloosa and 5 patterns of Satin Rose introduced in 1979. CV blades and no shields. Made that way from mid 79 through late 81. Then they switched those 10 patterns to satin finished stainless steel blades and added shields (the standard CASE oval shield). These were only made for a SHORT time with the SS blades and shields, all dropped in early 1982.
