My latest Boker

This Boker/USA is my latest aquisition. It's an all steel construction with really nice bone handles. There is no model number on the tang. With the all steel construction it makes me wonder if it was made just after WW2 ended and before the restrictions on war needed metals was lifted. All 3 blades have good strong snap. Dale H.

How long is that knife Dale? It looks similar to an 8588 I have, except mine has brass liners and pins.
It's 3 3/8".

Ah, sounds more like a 8573. (could be wrong, my list of model numbers is far from complete!)

Hawke & Blue, The copy of the 7583 Hawke shows has a shield on the handle. There is no shield or evidence thereof having ever been a shield on my knife. Was the shield a hit or miss on the earlier knives (Boker/USA)? Allthough anything is possible, the knife, I don't believe, was re-handled either.

Hey Bull,
I think you may be right as far as the steel liner being used around the time of WW2. I don't know for sure that Boker did that, I do know that brass was in short supply and other knife companies did use steel liners.
The shields seem to have come and gone at various times over the decades. And I don't really know that the 8573 pattern was made in the 40s, but it sure looks close!
I hope some of this is helpful and not confusing. The waters of Boker history can be quite muddy at times!

I like Rangers assessment of the steel and WWII stuff. Bokers are one of the most intriguing knives around. A Good knife and lots of info is out there, but a lot is missing too.

Blue, I've found that to be so true on tracing history on Boker's. They're a good knife though, and I've had a run on picking up 3 in the past 2 months. My edc is a Boker, #8586. Love those carbon blades! I'm shipping 2 back to Boker to have the shields replaced (lost at some point in time). A #8593 Jack, and a #9903 small serpentine jack.

I just won a little 9903 on feebay. Good looking little knife, and I like the smaller knives for EDC. About 90% of the cutting I do is paper, cardboard and loose strings. :) I forgot to mention before, that not only can the same pattern number have different shields, but they can also have entirely different handle materials...

Blue, I have a 6327, small stockman,5 dot. Somebody at some time has given it the hot pin test on the shield side handle, and there is a hairline crack at the middle pin, bottom.
