OK, what am I missing about this knife,

HI!
Look at this knife for me. I can't figure out why it would be worth this much money.
Is it the platnium? If so, take it off and put old bone on it for me. Just wanted others thoughts.

To a collector these are quite rare. I also worked for a refiner in the late 70's/early 80's when the precious metals market first sky rocketed.
We Destoyed thousands of these type knives and other items for the alloys, then chunked the insides.
Last time I noticed Platinum was well over $800 dollars a troy ounce, I would guess and say at this point it is worth more in metal than as a knife.
But, to a collector of pocket watches or fobs.......

BTW: Remington made a Platinum fob or Gold/Platinum lobster at one time, I think it was in the 30's. I hope Remington Collector would know for sure.

The knife is okay. Did you check out the penny. Depending on mint mark,
It could be worth as much as knife.

What is curious to me is clik on the number of bids and one guy has the high bid and raises his own bid. What is going on?

I may be wrong, but I think that you win the grand prize for reading this knife. I beleive that the bail is the only thing Platnium on this knife. Nice job, but if someone can prove me wrong, I will humbly apologize. Just another test.

I've seen guys do that as insurance, very commonly using 3 stacked bids. What he did was raise his maximum bid. Sometimes it will scare off some history list watchers. Sometimes it is just someone who will be gone and not near a computer. They want to get it as cheaply as possible yet still win so they put out a series of bids. He did not increase his cost, yet. That happens when someone else makes a bid. I hate the practice and I think it can wreck a sellers auction when a guy has a reputation for it. I've seen it in the Bulldog knives, I usually run it up when I see it. You run prices up on a guy a few times and he stops. DOWNSIDE: I got stuck buying a knife once.
