Etching on knife blades

I have lots of knife blades that have words like SCHRADE, SUPER SHARP, and SCRIMSHAW on them. When I use a knife polish (FLITZ) on them to clean them up. The words fade and not look real nice. I tried using some clear tape on them to protect the lettering but then it shows were I taped it because it not shinny like the rest of the blade. Is their some thing I should do to stop the fading? ::huff::

Sounds to me like you are removing the etch.

Do Not polish the blades with an etch now. Just wipe them off with a treated or oil rag/soft cloth then put them away.

With a frosted etch a wax like Ren-Wax does a great job. I use Simichrome (polish) also, but very sparingly and rub very lightly with good results.
