Abalone Scales

Hard to believe
someone found some Abalone shells; large enough to re-handle this Case toe. Nice knife wanted to bid but went up to fast;
looking at the bidding pattern makes me wonder.

That last one is my FAV Abalone.
I got her from Hukk about a year ago and she is still may best.
I love the 2 big blue spots in it.
I have some more Abalone Bulldogs from Hukk but for some unknown reason I lost the photos. So I put that on my to do list...

Hard to believe anyone would pay that much for a rehandled knife, abalone or not.
The listing said something about a spot of glue on the shield but there is no shield on that knife; perhaps more than just the bidding pattern deserves wonder...

I have no problem with a modern new customized rehandled knife.
These are extra large Abalone scales and super nice; it's all most impossible to find shells this large today.
I am concerned with bidder 2***1; 100% with this seller, 4 bids in the last 30days all on this knife.
Not saying anything against this seller or that the bidder could be a "Shill"; makes me wonder sometime when bidding on an item on eBay.

I too have a Japanese Parker with Abalone scales. I never liked Japanese made knives but this one is very well made, sturdy and smooth. Anyone know how to date a Parker? I'm thinking of selling this one. It came from my Father's estate.

Yep, that's a Red Abalone (species) and I have taken many over 10 inches long off California and Oregon (trophy size) and one that was nearly 11 x 9 inches. So they get BIG! But there is no longer a commercial fishery in California which is where they are found in the greatest numbers. A few can be found in Southern Oregon near Brookings and some in Mexico.
The piece of abalone on that knife is not Heart Abalone but is from the lip area - the edge of the shell and you can get big enough slabs from the lip area from a small abalone.
Heart abalone that is not LVS (laminated and a good product) is going to be very hard to find.
