All About Pocket Knives

I am honored to say that Great Eastern Cutlery has decided to allow me the opportunity to write a book about the history of the Northfield Knife Company, the Tidioute Cutlery Company (1909-1916) and the Great Eastern Cutlery Company. This new book will feature some great old photo's, and a comprehensive listing of GEC's products and production. GEC has taken the knife world by storm and I am thrilled to be working with Ryan Daniels, Ken Daniels, and Bill Howard to produce this historical reference book for those that love both old and new knives.

So, if you have anything of any materials on the above mentioned items that you think may be of interest, please contact me and we maybe can include them as well. This is VERY exciting and should be a wonderful addition to your knife library. Please pass the word. I can see that my winter will be spent on intensive research. I can't wait to get started.

Update, the book has gone to the publisher and we anticipate it being released at the OPEN HOUSE for GEC in Titusville, PA in July. If you like history and want to know more about the where the Tidioute and Northfield brands came from along with how GEC came to be, then this is a book for you. You will see some familar names of contributors as well.

Funny story I was at GEC awhile back and the Lady that normally greets people and works with the sales was not there. One of those guys helped me - I forget who, I think he was the general manager -something like that.

I bought a few knives and he was looking for the tubes. I noticed a stack of your books on the back table - and said who signed this? He said something like really it's signed - so I looked through them and you had signed the first 4 or 5 of the stack.

Yes that is correct. They purchased about 20 or so in January that I signed for them. I will be GEC on the Thursday the 15th before the open house which is July 16th and 17th. This will be the book unveiling and a unique opportunity to buy a VERY limited amount of hardcover copies. I do not know the price yet as GEC will determine that after receiving them from the publisher. All I can say is that it is very in-depth history of Northfield with photos that only a handful of people have ever seen.

Lots of color pics from people right here on this site. The gem is the a copy of the oldest known American Cutlery Co. catalog dated 1869. It is a Northfield and this has NEVER been seen by collectors in its totality. Also included is the production list for those knives made by GEC for others. This info has never been previously released.

Just got it at the show yesterday and immediately got home and read it all the way through. David it is very informative and a fun read too. I liked finding out how Bill and Ken decided on which patterns to bring back for GEC and the history of the original Northfield Knife Company. I knew a lot already about the Tidioute brand and how they began from reading your first book but never really knew much about the Northfield line.
In fact it's got me lookin at a knife on ebay right now. I won't tell the brand cause I don't wanna be outbid ya know. I also appreciated you touching on the whole repolishing or refurbishing an older knife. That's something I don't think has ever been discussed in print. I have 2 knives that have been redone and have always told everyone that they have been cleaned.

Just got it in the mail yesterday.
