All About Pocket Knives

I just aquired this 330T for $10. The blades appear to be new and unsharpened, The blade has Scharde NY USA on it. Some small rust spots and patina on blades and handle, any good way to clean this up without buffing? ftd

Maybe a little 000 steel wool and some WD-40

I use a polish called Tru-Glo. You can buy it from Budk on their website and it works wonders! http://www.budk.com

I would go the polish route myself.
Blue Magic or Purple metal polish are the two best I have found.

Steel wool will remove material from the bolsters and handle.
I avoid it unless I want to remove some gunk on a knife or if the knife is in rough shape.

Nice little 33OT and the price is right too, even w/spots.

I use Mother's mag & aluminum polish
before I go to the harsher metal glo paste.
Mother's is non abrasive, label states
'will not scratch metal surfaces' as well as
'perfect for ALL metals'. Product code is 05100
I use a dampened cotton cloth to further eliminate
chance of leaving marks on the bolsters.
Then if Mother's doesn't remove existing marks or
scratches I go to the heavier duty paste w/dampened applicator.
I also found some liquid SILVO made by same folks as Brasso.
that does a real good job on bolsters w/o leaving any residual
swirl lines.
I'm no cutlery expert but do have 30+ yrs cleaning up cars.
Knives are a lot smaller and easier to turn around.
Always enjoy reading what 'the Pros' are using for knifery upkeep.
Haven't heard of the blue magic or walker wax before, but since the metal-glo is almost gone time to find a good alternative.
Had simichrome back in the 70s to use on the Triumph side covers
but simichrome may have gone same route as the metal glo.

I just bought a Western Boulder 445 stockman with carbon blades. The knife was rusted, but otherwise new. I used a #2 pencil and rubbed the rust spots with the lead. I had read about this technique here and it really worked well. This is the least abrasive way the remove rust and tarnish that I know of. Try it first then move on to more aggressive abrasives if it doesn't help you.

Works like a hose. I'm tickled somebody thought I wasn't totally crazy and gave it a shot.

I just tried the pencil lead technique on my olde 78 22087
carbon blades and that took some of the spots right off.

I'm surprised I haven't heard any mention of this before.

I tryed to find the Tru-Glo at that site but did not.

I even put it in the sites search.

I had a brain-fart guys It's not tru-glo, it's metal-glo I musta been looking at the night sights on my Glock 20 to long

Blame it on night blindness razor. Besides those 10MM's don't need night sights, they'll clear an open path straight in front of you in the dark or the daylight.
