All About Pocket Knives

Just purchased a near mint Case knife. The front is stamped "Case's Fly Fishing Knife." I haven't been able to find alot of information about this knife and wanted to see if anyone here could enlighten me. It appears to be a transition knife with the 70's Case XX Stainless with dots markings. One blade has 7 dots and another 9. Does this make the knife more rare? Any comments or input would be welcome.

Case made the Fly Fisherman from the Case Tested era until about 1975. It had no pattern number, just the shortened name FLYFISH was used as the pattern number. One interesting tidbit is that the Fly Fishereman was always the most expensive pocket knife pattern in the Case line during the years that it was made....for example in about 1970 when the 5488 big stag congress retailed for $12, the Fly Fisherman retailed for $20 (those are approximate prices).

In terms of collector value, I believe that dotted ones go in the $150 to $225 range. And what you have is a "transition"...the Fly Fisherman is one of the very few Case patterns that had the tang stamp on two blades so sometimes as blades were leftover from year to year you will find two different markings on one knife. It probably does increase the value a little bit.
