All About Pocket Knives

Has any one got thier hands on one of these beauty's?
Just wanted to know if they were as slim as they look.

If true, I wonder how many were actually made with the Long Spear?

I heard that too. Greg from TSA knives mentioned it on his blog.
When the Northfields come out they are supposedly having a wharncliffe blade.
They probally made at least 250 of them. With 50 of each of the 4 different handle variations serialized plus unserialized ones of each.

I suspect the number was above 200, but they were all the PPP (pattern production premier) etched. The Northfields will come later in November or early December and it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't shelf the pattern altogether after that. Seems like it was just a complicated pattern that ended up costing more than anticipated to produce.

Can't do much with a 4" melon knife, a 4" wharnecliffe melon knife would be next to useless. They would have been better to advertise it as a slim whittler.

That's kinda' what I was thinking. That knife is so skinny...... no curve, swell or flow to it. Seems like 4" is too long for a frame like that.

Johnny, The Goldenrod is my pick of the litter, I do like the color...it's a thin one and handles nice. I don't think I'll use it on melons, maybe some salami and cheese...opening mail...light
chore's. I'll have to carry it some see what it will do. I have to agree with MM on the wharne...it mite make a good toothpick. I see more use's with a spear...

I decided as long as I was buying Christmas presents for everyone else, why not get one for myself.

It showed up in the mail today and WOW, what a beauty. I like everything about it. Mine won't be a user though. It's headed to the safe to snuggle up with the other queens in my accumulation.

I recently stopped at GEC on my way back from Penn State. I pick up one just like the one Jerry got, called Pumpkin Patch. Except mine is a factory defect, it has a small hairline space between the liner.

Anyways, I said it would be nice to have a two blade version and he said that they would be coming out in a few months!

I am sure the two blades would be much easier to make than the tricky Whittler pattern.

Don, is that crushed red abalone shell embedded in clear acrylic or is the acrylic colored to look like crushed red abalone??? I really like this knife. I also like that two blade congress shown right after the River Boat.

It is single layer LVS abalone encased in acrylic. Since they can use a much thinner layer of veneered abalone it is much cheaper than the 1/8" LVS they have used in the past. It is not crushed, but if you look closely most have distinguishable seams.

Jerry, They are attractive knives. I thought I read on one of the Distributor's sites that they only made "3" of the half-congress in the Red Abalone Looking Glass? If so, you might want to pick one up...

I have some more GEC's I recently purchased I will try to post pics of tonight. I'm turnin' into an addict, more and more, each day...

I haven't been able to find any of the half congress in any handle material of either brand. I've only been able to find one of the Riverboats and it is in RALG.

i was fortunate enough to get one of those red abalone half congresses.
i'm probably going to part with it, though, since i'm not a particularly big fan of half stops - although they're pretty bearable on their congress pattern.
the "looking glass" treatment on the abalone is sheer genius.
you still get the look of real abalone at a fraction of the cost.

mito, let me know if you do want to part with it. That's one slick lookin handle. And GEC is about the only knife maker made nowadays that I don't own a knife of.
