All About Pocket Knives

I bought this Icel Portuguese made knife from a commercial fishing supply house in Newfoundland. It is cheaply made but solid and priced so you won't be too concerned if you drop it overboard. I wouldn't be surprised if the commercial fishermen buy these things by the gross. The Portuguese pioneered the cod and sardine fisheries way back in the 1500s and it is interesting to see this connection to that heritage. The handle is 3 3/4 inches, total length 7 inches. Old fisherman's knives generally had a stout bail to attach a lanyard, on this one it has atrophied to a tiny split ring. Icel's main business seems to be commercial cooking knives.

A late comment, but that's an interesting knife, always good to see a knife with heavy use in mind when made.

I think I've seen some Icel Chef's knives. Quite nice. But I had no idea they made folders...
