All About Pocket Knives

This 1982 Case peanut has what appears to me as celluloid handles. The pattern number begins with an 8, which I believe denotes MOP? I've seen several others for sale and they were listed as MOP. If they are cell, why would they be glued on and not pinned? Any advice is appreciated.

and the other is "INTERNATIONAL BLADE COLLECTORS ASSOCIATION PRICE GUIDE TO COMMEMORATIVE KNIVES",dont quote
on the books just yet.i read a ton of books these days and im not positive if those are it.

anyway from both of these books or even others i have read
that exact knife was only made in pearl.thats it.

ill check the books and see if i can even find who commisioned them.im pretty sure they were commisioned for the event.

by the way was this an ebay grab from just a few days ago?

i was watching one a few days ago. some of the lettering
on the pearl was worn in identical spots as this one is.

Pete I saw the one on eBay. I bought this at the club meeting.

so,jim, that last line of writing partially rubbing off is just common amongst these knives. is the lettering inlayed at all ike scrim or is
more of just like a print on the pearl?

One of the simple ways to tell cell over Pearl is to rub it on your teeth. Pearl is grity, cell is smooth. Trust me it works. I have used it for MANY years.

If it has the number they use for pearl, then it is pearl. I would think that it was glued on to prevent from spliting when it was made.

Jim, I've seen a few of those knives, all of them have been pearl.

Ive always wondered about the glued/pinned thing myself. Ive seen them both ways.
8 does signify pearl so I agree with keithlong and it looks like it too. First lesson I learned was 9 and the 8. Bought a pen knife at flea market that he said was pearl. It had a 9, but I wasnt up on the handle numbers then. When I got home and looked it up....

The pearl knives I have and have observed run the gamut from no color to absolute fiery iridescence.Most real pearl scales when looked at under a loupe appear to be composed of layers of material(which they are).I have yet to see ANY celluloid duplicate that effect.

Geniune Pearl has a cold feel to it. Hold in your hand and see!!

Testing knife handles is a rough job.

I heard that on some of the China knives they were using frozen dog turds for handles. Any truth to that???

I'm gonna get "way off target here" but I watched on the news today that the most expensive coffee bean is where coffee beans are fed to civic cats in Asia then harvested out of the poop and then ground to perfection for that perfect cup of joe....

So why not make a knife handle out of a dog turd....

So if an Asian ever tells you your coffee tastes like cat $hit, take it as a compliment. I
