All About Pocket Knives

Well I did not intend to purchase any thing from Schatt & Morgan but the quality and look of these knives made everything I was looking at seem weak...

So here is my first purchase of some S&M's...Now I am going to be required to finish the rest of this congress set... Or else the world will not be quite right on its axis...

I'm exactly the same way about the Railsplitter Stockmen. Problem is, they keep coming out with new ones!

I originally intended to just get one S&M, just to see what all the fuss was about. At last count, I have four, and I'm sure I'm not done.

Like Bill Horn says, "The addiction only gets worse".

As you all know I am a nut about old Pa knives , but if I were to purchase new knives I am sure that this line would be in my collection. I love the antique look that these S&M have. Nice looking bunch for sure . Keep the pictures coming I enjoy seeing others be so passionate about this hobby.

Hi, I'm a new guy here. I think the new Schatt & Morgan, Robeson, Queen knives are probably the best knives out there. I too bought some Schatts just to see what they looked like. I am highly impressed. I have quite a few Case knives but I think the Quality of the Queen line of knives surpasses the Case line.

Welcome to AAPK Jfarmer thanks for sharing your thoughts If you get a chance post us a couple of pictures of your knives, I guarantee that they will be appreciated...I would have to agree with you that at the moment Queen really seems to be on top of their game with what they are producing...When I look at these congress knives it's pretty impressive to think that they are factory manufactured knives...

Thanks gentlemen, as I mentioned I did not have any intention of purchasing any Schatt & Morgans but as I shopped and looked around I seemed to keep running into the quality of these slipblades and finally gave in and spent my allowance on what you see. The funny thing is that I usually do not find any kind of Congress knife appealing but the long bolsters and vintage looking stamping just stood out among the rest...

Here are some of my Schatt and Morgan Railsplitters, so far.

Hey Longbeachbum I was just looking at some of those up for auction, but they were not as nice as yours...I love the one on the far right, is that a different year or special order knife??? How many years has S&M been making railsplitters and the big question is how many are you going to add to your collection??

Thanks you guys. The one on the right is part of the Premiere Series, and the Railsplitter came out in 2003. I think the only ones I don't have are the antique green bone, and the winterbottom bone. I'm not so concerned about having all of them, just making sure I have the ones I like. I also have three of the four Queen/Robeson Railsplitters. I keep hearing rumors of an SFO Railsplitter with stag handles and 1095 steel. That might be the ultimate pocketknife, according to my tastes and that one would go into my pocket instead of the display case with the others.

Here are some better pictures of my SM Railsplitters, which also include my 2006/Series XVI Railsplitter Moose in Bradford Green Bone. That might be my favorite of the lot.

Sunburst, what bone colorsare the 2 on top? Can't quite make them out. This pic is the F&W Jumbo Congress , I also have the 3 you have and you are right, I don't know why they aren't more valuable and popular, they are made and fiished just as good if not better than any Case knife. Goes w/o saying, the pics do not do these baby's justice, they are a beefy and well-made knife. Sunburst, Is your MOP as gorgeous as mine? Clarence told me Schatt uses only premier AAA MOP on their presentatrion knives.
Threw in a Mossy Oak Wildcat.
In looking at my collection, I have many Schatts: Baby E-toes, F&W Gunstocks, Wildcats etc. Need to work on those Railsplitters, nice pattern. Are those from rip-bay, or outright retail?? Do you recomend anyone? Perhaps I will stick w/ clarence, he's a great guy.

Those are Mahogany & Golden Root beauty's ....Yes the Pearl is absolutely stunning, it seems to be alive in your hand while looking at it, I don't believe I haved held a prettier, well made knife. Shhhh let's not tell too many folks about this great quality, at least not until I purchase a couple more

On the F&W Jumbo Congress, you just made me slobber all over myself. I did not even know they had made such an animal, where can I find one of those jewels????

I have had pretty good luck with Ebay but I would love to just find a store that was remotely close to what you can get at Ebay and avoid all the ups & downs of messing with Ebay. I have not tried Clarence yet but I have been drooling over his catalog for the last couple of days.

With the signature series, F&W series and Premiere series just for starters I can see me selling what I currently have to aquire these jewels...

I have also seen the 3-Blade reverse gunstocks go ballistic at sleaz-bay (in the very high 100s). Um, I got all of my F&W congresses at AG Russell, but, be prepared, their stuff is all retail. If I were lookin' I'd ask Greg Quick (Alabama)can't remember his ebay ID. He can find them or has them. You could try Sooner State knives. Schatt also makes a F&W Baby E-toe that is breathtaking (see pic).
I had three of them (F&W Congresses) at one time, sold one,,,gone. Sold the other to a friend, and he sold it for,,,get this,,,,$76 bucks on freeze-bay, he got royally jyipped (SP?) I paid a solid $125 a piece for the 3 I had, and I tells ya, they are worth it too . OK, heres the baby e-toe, and maybe a F&W Gunstock too (sorry, bad pic, but a way nice knife ), and/or an older F&W series reverse gunstock,,,before they marked the knives F&W,,but the box has the F&W mark.

PS, boys, make sure you demand perfection in your premeir and F&W Schatts, I have sent back a couple, and the ones in return were unremarkable. Pays to be vigilant.

They are call cotton samplers from the 1995 Series.

I am a stag fan, so I am drooling right now. I have to remember to put on a bib before looking at these threads with lots of pics.

To whoever asked for a good source for railsplitters, Bill Horn at Cumberlandknifeworks.com is my main source. Besides great prices, you can't beat the service, and his integrity. Another great seller is pgquickco on ebay.

As an aside, for all things "tactical" AAPK Blades is about the only place I even look any more. Same reasons -- price to some extent, but mainly my confidence in Bryan's integrity.

Man, you guys really have some great Schatts, and some excellent photos of your collections!!!
I'm getting really into the S&M lines lately, too (and all the rest that are made by Queen, for that matter... Just picked up a Moore Maker Jumbo Stockman, in smooth yellow bone, made by Queen).
They're not only gorgeous, but they're real, solid, dependable working knives, too.
