All About Pocket Knives

this is a moore maker large trapper pattern 3202. this company is in texas and they sell tools, ranch supplies and equipment. i sold my yellow case 54 after i received this one. the fit and finish were much better. very sharp out of the box. a few questions. are they made or assembled in texas from a contract. i've looked at some of their other offerings and they were outstanding. the stmp reads moore maker,inc over matador, texas. anybody else have moore maker?

I happen to have that Trapper. Er, I mean one like it.

It was made for them by Camillus, as were the horn handled knives. But no longer, as of the current Camillus strike.
Don't know what's going to happen now.

Their other, more expensive knives are made by Queen.

The bone and stag offerings are made by Queen. They are VERY nice, as they should be, for what they cost.

Moore Maker is one of my favorite brands. To date I have I think five MMs (both Queen and Camillus versions) and my favorite EDC slippie is a yellow delrin 3 7/8" punchblade stockman. My next one is going to be a stag jumbo trapper.

I actually learned about Moore Maker from this forum and bought a couple. They are very nice, well made knives. I just sold the two pictured on the right last week and probably will regret getting rid of them...

That's interesting on what Bill said about the strike going on at Camillus, I had not heard that...

nice knives. i seem to always lament when i sell a good knife.

bummer about camilus' strike. i had heard that the knives were assembled and finished at moore maker. any validity to that rumor?

Moore Maker does no assembly. All knives are built and purchased under contract.

Mr. Moore specifies the styles and material to used in his knives.

As far as I know Camillus and Queen are both currently producing knives for Moore Maker. I know a batch of Camillus knives just recently arrived in Matador.

I have a craving for one of the new rams horn trappers. But even as a dealer they are pretty expensive.

If I can help by ordering your congress I will be glad to.

cool, jeff, i'll start gathering my pennys. how much are the bone congress? i would just as soon buy from a member.

thanks for the info on manufacture. the quality control must be good. is there a way to tell which contractor is responsible?

Hey Jeff, how's it going?

I'm sure there were some knives in the pipeline from Camillus...makes sense. One of the Customer Service Representatives from Camillus (Vickie Hinds) recently posted on the Camillus forum, that Camillus had lost the contracts with Cold Steel and with the Moores. I was just passing that on. If you hear otherwise, please let us know.

that's the second time I've seen you post those pics... (saw em on "another forums" haha) Very nice shot of two very nice tools.
You guys have given me the itch for one of those queen-made stockmen.

Just as information,

There was a post on the Camillus forum, from someone claiming to be a striking worker, that implies that Camillus may still be making knives for the Moores...but that no new materials are being ordered because of the amount of debt the business is carrying. So, who knows what is correct regarding that contract, but it sure sounds bad for another old American owned knife business.

I just got off the phone with the guys at Moore Maker. The Camillus knives are still being made. The department heads are running the lines. The orders are slow to be shipped, but they are coming. The new patterns that have been designed by Mr. Moore are on hold due to retooling issues.

It has also been discussed that the plant may be for sale.

While I was on the phone I picked up a pair of Stag and Rams horn liner lock trappers. I'll get some pictures on when I get them.

Which size stockmen are those? I just got one of the Jumbo stockmen, and boy is it nice!
Built to be a real, strong working knife, with the looks & finish of a collector's piece!
