I saw a small knife that the handles were flat 14 K gold. The tang stamp said 1 XL George Wostenholm. The handle had fancy scrolling. The knife was maybe 2 inches long and was a 2 blade. The second blade had a tang stamp of 1 XL Wostenholm. I don't have a picture right now since it is in a small antique shop. Has anybody seen these kind of knives made from real gold? Does anybody have an age that this might have been made or the name of a price guide that would cover this maker. The knife is priced at $90.00. I have gotten some real good deals on knives from this antique dealer because he mainly deals in old glassware. Any help would be appreciated. I might be able to get him to let me take a picture in a few days.

Hi knifenovice,

Are the gold scales hall marked ? (UK four part) if not, the knife will have been assembled by a US jeweller/maker using a Wostenholm carcass.

Are the scales even gold ? ::paranoid:: be careful to check markings.

Mick :)
