All About Pocket Knives

I saw a small bone handled 2-blade used pocket knife in an antique store. It had Miller Brothers stamped on the tang of the blade. Is Miller Bros. a hard knife to find. Is it collectable? I don't have a picture until I purchase the knife but it was only $10. It looks older than the hills. I saw in the aapk store section a Miller Bros knife. but wanted to make sure. Any info would be appreciated.

Miller Bro's knives are quite collectable. Like most all brands condition is the main factor as far as value goes. I think they quit making knives around 1925 and started in the 1860's so it does have quite a bit of age on it. They used screws to fasten the handles on some of their knives. $10 sounds like a very fair price.

When i find a nice old bone handled Miller Bros. my hands start to twitchin and a cold chill kind-off starts and my toes and runs to the top of my bald head!

As one knife novice to another, if you see an old knife that seems to be of decent quality at a price like $10, grab it. You may end up overpaying now and then, but you're also going to get some things that you'll be glad to have. And of course, post pictures of all purchases here for the rest of us to see.

Here are the pictures. I hope you enjoy! The blades are pretty worn but the handle is in great shape. If anybody has a better idea as to the aproximate age it would be great to know. As far as value I paid $10. If it was to much I don't care because I didn't have a Miller Bros knife in my collection. Does anybody know what style of knife by looking at the handle? I appreciate all the info everybodys given.

Looks like a 1237 Wharncliffe to me. An old book gives $12 in poor condition , $260 in pristine mint.

I'd buy 'em all day long like that for $10. Neat lookin old knife!

Thanks to everyone who commented on the knife. You guys are great for helping identifying knives. That little knife wasn't even locked up in a glass case at the antique store, it was just sitting on an old dresser. My good find this week, on to the next one. I am going to have to get a price guide to help me in my search for good and interesting knives to buy.

old post, i know, but if there are any miller bro. historians cruising about, i'd surely appreciate the help:
a while ago, i picked up a miller bro. "office knife" in really nice condition at a garage sale. not knowing what it was, i convinced the guy to put it with a bunch of other old junk to make ten cents, got it home, looked on e bay... WOWEEE! 10,000% return on investment anyone?
ok. i digress. forgive me.
i know very little about these knives, (else i wouldn't have blatantly ripped the poor guy off like that,) and was wondering if someone could help me more precisely date this thing based on what they know about them. the stamp on the return is a little different than a lot of the ones i've looked up reading simply: MILLER BROS U.S.A on one blade, and MILLER BRO'S on the other, omitting the 'MERIDEN' i've seen on a lot of online specimens around.
does this help at all? anything you guys know is more than me at this point,

at the moment, i have no digital camera. i'll see if i can borrow one from my sister but i'm not sure when that will be. the words run straight across perpendicular to the blade and stacked up on each other thus:

BROS
U.S.A.

Nice knife TJ, I really like the swedged spear point blades. The screwdriver blade is unique my first thought looking at it was to strip wire? Two nice Miller Brothers for sure!!

Thankyou, I picked it up today for a couple of dollars and never heard of this brand before but it said USA, reminded me of a scout knife I had. What is the curve blade for?

The blade on the left of the picture is a can opener. Miller Brothers knives are real scarce around my neck of the woods.

Hello everyone, I am a new member and Im here to create my first post. Here are a few photos of a Miller Bro's knife. I believe it is a pruning knife but was wondering if there is a way to date it or if anyone else has any info on it.

It looks like it was a hawkbill pruning knife.
Miller Bros. (Dimitri) should be along before too long.
He should be able to tell you about your knife.

It is a pruning knife. It looks like the blade has been re-pinned at one time, not uncommon.

It has quite a bit of wear on the blade. It was probably made before 1910.

There is no exact way to date these knives.

I found this today while going through some boxes of Grandmothers. It had belonged to my Great Grandfather. He was born in the 1860's so, and I am only guessing here, it must be around 125 years old. The main difference, that I have noticed about this knife, is that it has only two screws, instead of three. I can only guess that the third screw was added as an "upgrade" to rigidity some years later. Anyone have any more input on it? I have taken the best pics I could manage, but even up close with a magnifying glass I cannot make out all of the engraving at the base of the blades. Thought I'd share my find with you folks anyway.
