All About Pocket Knives

After reading this listing again and the BS about the seller having bought this knife from a knifer that passed away in May 2009, at the ripe old age of 96. The 96 year old knifer supposedly bought this knife between 1900-1915, while on a business trip. If he was 96 when he passed in 2009, he had to have been born around 1915! The more I look at the stag on this knife, the more I think it's not legit! I've seen a lot of 100 year old Case stag knives and every one of them had shrinkage and some separation around the liners and bolsters, in addition to serious cracks. I think the story and the knife are just a bunch of BS.

I am far from an expert on those old Case and Case related knives, but that one just does not look "right" to me either. You make a good point about the lack of shrikage on the handles. That back side handle just doesn't look right at all to me. I never saw stag like that.

As far as the BS goes, how about his shipping charge? What's he going to do, hire a Brinks truck to deliver it?

Sidewalk salesman; must be the same ones on the NY sidewalks; selling those Rolex watches. I've never heard of knives being tacked to a board; think he meant wired? Looks like to me; if it had been on a board for all those years; the rear handle would be much darker than the front. I'm with you Jim; a lot of BS-ing going on.

This is the same knife that someone mentioned having brass pins on one side and steel on the other.

To me it looke like a legit knife that has had some use and sharpening, blade wear, and has had the back handle replaced. The basic knife I believe to be authentic...just cleaned and with a replaced back handle.

And the story...well that's aboout the biggest load o'BS I have ever heard.

Look at how the pins are peened on the front side in the first picture of the enlarged photos - looks nice and clean.

Then with the enlarged pictures look at the pins in pictures 2 and 4 - 2 pins appear to be silver in color and the peening is sloppy. Also look at the pins on the backside in 3rd from the last picture.

I'm no Case expert but clean peen in the front without cracks and messy peen on the back with terrible "jigging" and cracks looks suspicious to me - not to mention mismatched pins. It just don't look right to me.

The tang stamps are not correct, the handles have both been replaced.

The entire knife has been re-worked, like I said on the first thread started about this knife, the knife is a FAKE and meant to deceive the novice collector.

I think that's the case. While my "expertise" lies with other brands, I see enough questionable things to believe it's a fake without reading the tangs. I see there were 3 offers; did someone offer $105 EVEN - 50 cents less than shipping?

Hello, I have had lots of questions on this knife, about the scale on back. I purchased this knfe from a resound GUN, and KNIFE dealer. He was in the business for 65-70 years. He passed away in MAY 2009, at the age of 96 years old. I purchased the knife from him 40+ years ago. He purchased this knife while on a business trip to NY, in early 1936. From a man who purchased it from a a CASE BROTHERS sidewalk salesman. The salesman had this knife made by factory for display purposes. He would tack all his knives that was for sale. He would lay them all on a board with felt type material on it, this particular knife was made to lay flat on the board for display. It may be only knife like it, in existence, RARE. That is why this knife was made like that is what he was told. Sorry about the part I left out, Thanks for all great questions.

The above quote comes right from the sellers description, seems he added it late in the auction, due to all the questions about the handles, etc.

OK, the guy he bought it from in 1966, told him at that time it was bought in 1936 from a "sidewalk salesman", and this salesman told him the back handle was made flat so he could display them on a board? Has any other knife company ever made the back handle flat to put on a display board, No. If this sidewalk salesman had this one made special from Case, why would he be selling it!! The whole story is a bunch of crap This seller is pathetic if he thinks anyone will buy that story, and if anyone does I feel sorry for them.

Hukk, no I did not put in an offer. If I did it would have been .50 cents, if he offered FREE SHIPPING!

Umm, why would it cost $105 to ship? Does it get delivered by armored vehicle?

I think the $105 for shipping is for insurance in case it gets lost he can get his six grand!
