All About Pocket Knives

Noone tell my doctor I'm here, he'll yell at me. I'm supposed to be not using my right hand outside of my full splint for a few weeks so my tendons will heal . He and I both know this is going to end up with either surgery or shots, and I've been sitting on this knife for like 3 weeks and it's KILLING ME.

I started this thread over here: http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... 37&t=13303 where I detail where I got this little bugger, and my "new" method to try and clean it up a bit. You need to understand, this isn't a pretty new knife, not expensive by any means, and I'm not trying to make it that. This knife, was one of many carried around for years by my Granddad. He died when I was pretty young, so he never got to share in my hobby here. I have a couple of his knives, one of which was my very first pocket knife, given to me personally by him. I've never had a "spare" knife of his to work on before, like I did with my other Grandpa, until now.

Anywho, sentimental stuff aside, this was a really special project. I wanted to keep within the spirit of the knife (no fancy woods or mirror finish or anything) so I used some black G10 composite with a little hand carved "Anso" inspired texture to it. the whole thing got tossed into the tumbler with some dry ceramic media to give it the "bead blasted" look, without me having to own a media blaster

It's now wonderful to hold onto, snaps like a little mousetrap, and sharpens up like a dream Enjoy!

Well done. I like it. I think it would have looked nice also, had you left those blades blackened. Either way, you made it look much, much better. Nice job

nicely done. do you have any problem of the media getting into the action and making it gritty?

with this media (Ceramic angle cut rods, small ones), no not really. I didn't add any compound in with it, I let it run dry. It takes quite a bit longer to work that way, but it avoids the mess. I rinsed well with soapy water, then followed that with a few quick blasts with a can of compressed air. It's not the most gentle finishing method, but in this case it worked out well. G10 is pretty well indestructible, I don't think I'd try it with much else.
