All About Pocket Knives

I'm not much of a knife collector, just like to carry one most of the time and appreciate a few that I have for gutting deer and birds. A friend collects Case knives and quite a while ago I bought one that I believe was called a Sideliner, in any event it's marked Case XX, USA, 7110L SS. My friend really liked it so I searched and found one that I gave to him, but looking now I cannot find anything on the web (google) or ebay on this model.

They came in nylon belt cases, pretty wimpy little things that wear quickly, but you can't really carry this in a pocket without eventually slicing a pocket liner or worse. Mine's got a set of curly/birdseye maple handles, the one I gave away was reddish so may have been a different wood.

Anybody know history about these knives?

Barring any direct knowledge, can anyone suggest a Case-specific site that might be a better chance of learning about my knife? Any help appreciated.

Just hang loose. There are some VERY knowledgeable Case people here. I'm sure they'll check in.

I kind of remember those being from about 1985-88 i been wrong before, but i'm sure somebody will come around with the right answers(knifekid, where are you?) i think the one you have posted here has curly maple scales on it.

i was thinking early 90s then in 05 the slimlock came out which looks a lot like them i always thought they were nice looking knives

The 71010 one hand opener that the OP asked about was introduced in 1989 after Parker bought Case. It was one of the "hybrid" patterns that I beleive was actually made in the Parker Cutlery plant in Alabama (now Bear & Son Cutlery).

It was an unusual and distinctive pattern and was made in curly maple, red bone and IIRC stag. There may have been other variations as Parker put out a LOT of stuff in a short time.

They were only in production for 1989 and 1990 as far as I have been able to tell.

Kirk, in our 1990 catalog is a knife pictured that is exactly like your knife and it is listed as a 71010L Side lock not a 7110L. That is the reason I could not find any info about the knife. It has curly maple handle and there were 3750 made.

Got a reply from the source, as suggested. My knife is marked 7110L, so the catalog is likely incorrectly marked unless the markings on the knives don't necessarily match the catalog number. No big deal, and 1990 sounds about right for when I bought it. Thanks, guys!

Hi. I have one of these, and mine has just one dot, which I think indicates 1989. I replaced the handle scales on mine with desert ironwood because the maple was missing on one side and the other side was pretty beat up.

Actually, IIRC, the true pattern number for that knife is 71010L SSP. It was considered an error that the tang stamp on the knives reads 7110L SSP. That pattern was only produced in Jacksonville, AL as has already been mentioned. Parker also sold the exact same knife with the Parker tang stamp. Case offered two versions, one with Curly Maple and another in Red Bone with the Centennial Blade Etch. Parker offered some in Bone (Blue Bone as I recall) and also a very special one with Stag handle covers and a Damascus Blade. That last one was featured as one of the ABCA annual knives. Knifeaholic, at one time, considered this pattern a pre-cursor to the Slimlock.

For the interested, I have attached two pictures of the ABCA set featuring a Parker Sideliner with a Case Stag Karge Coke Bottle. If the Sideliner wore a Case tang stamp, the pattern number would have been 51010L D.
