All About Pocket Knives

Well, I've online and am expecting my new price guide book in the mail; in the meantime........
I have two USA 8 dot knives. One is R6154 and the other G6154. It is obvious the R is for red and the G is for green. I assume these were a limited run in 1982? Any help?

Guy, no wonder I have no replies........I mean, was it possibly a special run in 1972....not 1982.

No you were correct..those were special runs from 1982. Case did virtually zero speciual run knives in the early 1970's.

I vaguely recall those 54 patterns but I do not recallt the story on them - can you post pictures?

SMKW did 2500 of each...seems like a Christmas special of some sort. Like Steve said, I can't remember why. It was Smoky Mountain that done it though so I will call to see if anyone can remember them.

No help from me on this.

BUT; I see that the handles look better on the back than the front.
I see this so may times. Is their a reason for this.

I would think that the best handle should be on the front with the shield. I watched the workers at Queens and they look and change them to show best side that goes with shield.

Thanks for at least that much information and everyone else who responded. It does seem that the 'old man' had a likeness for special runs as I've found several knives that aren't on this site. They were not made in a regular run for the year they're marked.

Maybe the front side tends to get a little extra polishing because of the shield?

From what I have obsreved, it seems that SMKW has several SFO Christmas knives produced each year. There are always at least one or two Case Christmas Specials. These are, of course, limited runs made especially for SMKW to their specifications.
In answer to the "WHY", that gives them one more chance to sell you another knife. It's marketing, pure and simple.
I would suspect that they have a fairly substantial customer base who buy the Christmas Special each year in order to collect the series. If they weren't selling them, they would quit having them made.

Phil.............don't get the 'big head' but you're a genius. Love that..........if they weren't selling them, theyd quit havng them made.....maybe you can call up Detroit and give them some pointers!
