OK, another Keen Kutter, another question...

It must be my week for questionable Kutters... A friend bought this at a flea market. It is legit, and what era is it from?
It looked OK to me, not knowing Keen Kutters very well...
But when I enlarged this, I spotted an "R" off to the right of the blade etch, what is that? Did someone alter this knife?

Look at the picture of the tang stamp. You can see the remains of a stamp beneath the Keen Kutter stamp, in particular an "R". Even without that, that blade doesn't look like it goes with that knife. The frame is probably real but I believe that the blade is a replacement.

That is what I figured. I looked at all my references and it looks like it should have a spear point blade in that frame.
I gave him a magnifier and showed him what to look for. He said he got it off a table from a guy with lots of expensive knives. They were all at one end, this "Kutter" was at the other with less expensive ones. He gave $25.00 for it so he will survive the financial blow alright. I just wonder what blade they used.
And I would take it back to the guy next week if he is set up again, I expect if you throw a fit with a bunch of people there he might refund the $$$$. It is a fairly obvious alteration. Of course he may claim "as is where is".
I certainly would avoid those more expensive knives...

I believe the handles and frame are authentic and are in nice shape, the main blade has been replaced. Philco is probably correct in that it is a Rough Rider blade. What about the secondary blade, has it been replaced also?

Good question, I only have this picture, he took the knife home with him....
