All About Pocket Knives

Hi, Anyone familiar with these?
This is the first I've seen any offerings from this outfit.

Looks like someone bought the rights to the name. I was wondering if anyone knows about their quality.

When Stewart Taylor purchased Imperial Schrade, he also got the rights, brand names, ect at auction, he ended up with the brand name as well. This is a brand new knife, of course, but an old, well-respected name. I call it a 'fake' myself, as it is not marked in any way as a reproduction. It's a guess who actually made the knife. Camillus, Bear, who knows?

Tooling-wise looks identical in every detail to a Bear & Son 47 pattern. Bear is also making some new bone handle Schrade Walden marked knives for Taylor.

I've looked through some of the collectors books that I have they all give the same date on the New York knife co. as 1878-1932. I also have several Hammer Brand in my collection the dates on those ones range from 1936-45 but none have the same tang stamp as this one, by that I mean, the hammer does not split the word hammer as this one does.

I think it was Imperial that started splitting the name Hammer with the arm and mallet when they acquired the brand name.

If it is a Bear & Son, my opinion is it is a decent knife. Perhaps I went over the edge calling said knife a 'fake'; after all, it is a real knife, made by a real company, under contract for the legal owner of the brand. But these kinda re-issues or whatever we call them do mess things up for future collectors. And we have all seen dishonest Ebays selling newly made 're-issues' as older, classic brands.
