All About Pocket Knives

I think boot knives fit into 'tactical'. A last ditch defensive weapon... or a punk's tool for a quick and dirty stab in the dark. Easily hidden on the person, almost always equiped with a boot/belt clip, usually double edged and very frequently they are banned for concealed, or even open carry. 'Not for sale in MA and CA' is a common addition to the description of these things in a catalog. But I like the simple, elegant lines, so I have a few... not an organized collection, just what I like. I should add that I sent my step brother off to Iraq with two Camillus knives: An ASEK (jet pilot- what I carried in VN) and a C77 boot knive, both in the desert finish.

The black Camillus to the right is my personal carry; customized for me by SantaFe Stoneworks. It's black jet with mother of pearl stripes on each side. First Row, top to bottom: Gerber, pre-Camillus Western, 'Star Handcrafted', Beretta 'stampede' (singed edged), Olsen.

Second row are all Parker and Frost issues. I am just fascinated by the thought of a single edged boot knife that folds. The top two are in a pair of matching sheaths created for me by Paul Long (Sheathmaker). One for carrying the knife open, the other closed. Paul is great at making one's off the wall sheath dreams a reality. Last knife is a Jim Parker design, it's a fixed blade that folds into a T-handled thrust dagger. Top edge is half sharpened. Sheath has a boot clip, so I think it qualifies.

Nothing special, with the exception of my Jet and Pearl. Just knives of interest to me... and a comfort to have on my person at times.

I thought that boot knife fall into hunting not in tactical.

I think that I would place a boot knife in the catagory of self-defense.

I would call it tactical, especially if it is double edged. I have seen lots of boot knives and 95% seem to be double edged.
Hard to skin an animal with a double edged blade that is made primarily for stabbing, not slicing.

Look at the blade geometry of most double edged knives, the real purpose it stabbing.
They are generally not thin enough to do an efficient job of cutting or slicing.

Boy,I like the profile of that blade....reminds me of a Gladiator short sword.
I had forgot that S&W made some of their knives in the US........do you know what year that was made?

Not sure and I can't find when they were made on the internet yet. It has a rubberized grip, so if I had to take a guess I would say in the late 60s or 70s. I added a few more photos for you to see it better.
