All About Pocket Knives

i'm curious about a buck knife that i have.the bone is not the same color on both sides.joe houser with buck has give me some info,but i would like your thoughts as to why the bone is not the same color.i will also post his reply also.my thoughts is that maybe it was made as an sample.please let me know what you think.thanks,tom

Sorry for taking so long to reply to your email. I took a look at the pictures and it does look similar to a project that Camillus did for us a few years back. They have made various models for us, off and on, since about 1970. This particular one was probably done around 2000.

That is certainly possible but unfortunately, almost impossible to prove. I know that our specials department has done that before when they wanted a customer to pick between 2 possible colors so that makes the scenario possible.

Buck normally has a very high level of quality control on everything they put their name on. You just don't see a defective Buck knife. The mismatched handles would have most likely kept that knife from ever being shipped to a retailer had it been an accidental occurance. For that reason I'm inclined to think the "sample" theory is a very plausable explaination for why your knife looks the way it does, particularly in light of the comments Joe Houser made on the issue. This is, of course, only my opinion.

I'm curious as to how you came to own that knife. Did you buy it new from a store or are you not the original buyer? If you bought it new from a retailer, that would weaken the case for it being a sample, as it is very unlikely it would have been in a dealers inventory as a regular stock item.

i bought the knife from a dealer who bought it at the camillus auction.i also have a copy of the bid ticket to verify.it is for sure high quality.it's pretty big and heavy,thick blades,a very nice knife.it's just interesting trying to find the story on it.and thanks for your info.i'm looking forward to hearing more.thanks,tom
