Hi warm welcome to the site. The knife appears to be German-made. Note the long nickel bolsters, steel pins and small mother of pearl scales. William Elliot was a New York based importer and not the maker. Perhaps the knives were made from parts sourced from England and Germany. Is there a country of origin stamped on the tangs? Nonetheless, it looks like a nice knife circa very late 1800s or early 1900s. Thanks for posting it. :D s-k

hey steve, it looks like steel pivot pins(common on german knives). do you think they put sheffield on tang to avoid association with germany pre war?

wm. elliot & co. 1880- 1907, adolf strauss & co. (1907-1918) aquired elliot & co. in 1907 and continued using mark.

You're welcome Freddy. Johnnie, that could be possible but I have no further information at the moment ::shrug:: . Given no country of origin, it could be pre 1891 but I don't think so. I wonder if Wm Elliot bought parts and had them assembled in the US. The German style handles were less expensive than the Sheffield style with full length mop scales. :D s-k
