All About Pocket Knives

What do you guys think of the stamp on this one?

I would have some concerns with it.

I have some reservations with that pattern stamp. Edges look raised to me.......................???

I am not experienced enough; to add my 2cents. But read this forum; trying to learn from you guys. The Case XX stamp looks hand done to me; not original. There is some pitting on the rear tang; but the front is smooth mabey shaved/ and the little circles on some of the letters; dosen't look right to me. Gmail, when you say that the pattern #; (looks to have raised edges); does that mean it may have been cold stamped?

It's been my experience when a blade is tang stamped it's of course soft (the steel). Then after hardening and heat treating the blades must be cleaned prior to assembly. This cleaning most often removes those ridges, but not always. This is also the reason for the dark bottoms of a tang stamp. They are that way on most vintage knives because of the process.

That said...............looks like the Case XX stamp on this knife has been graved out.

The "Case" and the "XX" looks pantograph to me. Easy to see where the start and stop points are from the cutting tool.

Stamp looks awful to me

did not sell for $200. relisted for $160.
