::td:: We had a server go down and the site was offline most of today (May 10) and part of yesterday. Still down in some regions, but should be back to normal soon. ::nod:: My apologies if you were affected.

Just found out that this is a network issue and not a server problem... some of our members still can not connect. I'm not sure how many are affected, but we have pinpointed the exact problem area and I've been told it will be resolved asap.

more about networking from http://www.neoreality.com ; for anyone interested...
The Internet is a collaborative entity. When you are looking at a web site, the information on your screen has been transmitted through several computers to reach you; from the originating web server it must travel over several "hops" (as many as ten or more) to finally reach your computer. Each hop is a connection owned by a different company, university, or government. So in order for you to see your web site on your computer, four or five companies’ equipment may be involved. Because of this, there are three important things to keep in mind:

Any break in the chain of computers between you and your web server can cause delays. This is not necessarily the fault of hosting providers. Unfortunately we cannot control every computer between the web server and the final destination.
The fact that you are having problems viewing a web site does not mean everyone is. If you connect through a different Internet service provider you may find that the site suddenly begins to work again. This is because now the data is traveling along a different "path". (On the flip side, if the two providers use the same backbone, the problem will persist.)
Many delays on the Internet are transient in nature and will go away in a few minutes. Sometimes the best remedy to a problem is just to wait for five minutes and try again.
When you guys that have been unable to connect get back on here, I apologize for this inconvenience. I've been working my tail off trying to get everything squared away.

Appreciate the efforts, Bryan and the explanation. I know just enough about computers to get into trouble. Some of our Schrade guys have been having trouble finding their way here.

I have not had any problems myself, but I have received several emails and phone calls from others saying they could not get on the site.

You don't know how glad I am to see some of you guys who have been unable to connect. :D

I think all is well again ::nod::

Now... I am off to bed for a few days ::tired::. This has been quite a deal. I was beginning to think I was going to have to drive over to California and fix the hop myself.

Lesson learned at least. If this ever happens again, I'll have a contingency plan in place to get things back to normal a lot faster.

Good morning everyone. I was just able to access the site this morning for the first time in several days. Thanks Bryan for all of your hard work to get things up and running for us again. The old saying you don't really appreciate something until it is gone certainly applies here. Now I have some reading to do. :) s-k

Nice to be back! I wasn't able to get on in Southern California either, until tonight.

Edited: I celebrated being back on the site by buying a Spyderco Waved Endura 4 from AAPK Blades.

Two thumbs up for Bryan. Thanks for all your efforts. Runnning a site like this must be a labor of love.

Now you know why I wont do one of these. My hat is off to all the owner/operators of the chat rooms. When things go bad you really hear about it. I've got too many years in software support to ever do this again.
Thanks for the effort I know what you have been through.
