Right now this knife is at $910. Some collectors think there is such a thing as a genuine stag 10 dot Cheetah...

Not sure I'm in that camp, but for $900+, I hope this one is for real. Just for the sake of the buyer. :shock:

I have dealt with this seller buying Bulldog Brand knives and I have found that all his knives that I have purchased have been 100% correct. However, I do not like "it has 8 dots, but I'm told that it is a 10 dot". Smells fishy to me, if the seller tells the buyer, "you decide", I will stay away because the seller should know exactly what he is selling. $910 :shock: and the guy is not even sure of what he is buying. I also hope it is real for the buyers sake, but buyer beware and be informed. One reason I stopped collecting Case, stuff coming out of the woodwork, never in books, no documentation and a lot of counterfitters.

There are some 10 dot Stag Cheetah's out there but not many, I've owned two over the last 10 years. The last one I seen sell went for 3500.00, that gives you an idea of how few there are. However, the one on ebay is NOT a 10 dot. There is actually a very easy way to tell but instead of blurting it out, lets see if anyone else knows????

WOW!

Went for $2000 ::tear::

Upon further review... If it were a 10 dot, it should have another dot to the left of the USA. Right Perry?

My question is... Can you determine if it's an 8 or 9? Are the dots on all 1971 Case knives offset to the right...?

(edited for clarity, but I think I went the wrong way)

Thanks!

2K really surprised me as well! Feller is only going to receive a 9 dot that books for 600.00...oh well.

Bryan, you're correct about how the dots changed between 1970-1971, however in the case of the Cheetah, there's still a very very simple way to tell. It is not well known though so I'll wait a bit before I post the little trick. There is a picture of a 10 dot 6111 1/2 on my web site if you want to see where the dots were placed.

Also, for the record, I've never seen an eight dot Cheetah. Some folks claim that one was made but I've looked long and hard and no one has been able to show me one.

Well, I saw one 10 dot and it did not have Cheetah etched on the blade like the one on eBay did. $2,000.01 :shock: WOW the loser is the winner ::doh:: The eBay one also has Stainless stamped into the tang where the 10 dot I saw on Knifekids site did not, but I don't know a whole lot about Case, but I'm learning.

The 10 dot on my site is a standard 6111 1/2 (not a Cheetah just a lockback) and they all had a CV blade. I also have a Cheetah on the site and it's a standard 9 dot just like the one that sold on ebay.

The easy way to tell if a Cheetah is a 10 dot is that it will not have a pattern number on the back side of the blade. I've watched a bunch of guys straining their eyes looking for the tenth dot when all you have to do is flip the knife over and see if it has a pattern number.
