All About Pocket Knives

I know I did, was upset as could be. It wasn't an expensive knife but to a kid it was close to the end of the world. Well look what I found...if not the same model as close as my memory allows it to be (been awhile since I was a kid...lol) a new/old stock Colonial SAF-T-JAC lock back. Seems this is the same as the one I lost and for under ten bucks I had to have one. I have no idea what I will do with it but it does bring back memories of Klondike Derbies, campfires, hiking through the pines, rabbits and squirrels spitted over a fire. That alone is worth the 10 bucks to me...

Those memories are worth more than an expensive knife IMO...I just wish I could remember what my first knife even looked like...I am sure it was trown at several trees...

A knife? I lost a BUNCH of them. Most memorable was my 1st Buck 110 (that I pocket carried as I was still in school) that I placed on the back of my moms car while playing driveway basketball. She came out while we were playing and drove to town. When she came back, it was gone. Before and after that I lost a bunch of pocket knives. Every time I'd think "wow, I've had this knife a long time", it would be lost within days. Finally broke the trend by carrying Buck folders in the belt case. I've had my 112 for over 10 yrs. Worn out several belt cases.

I lost knives when I was a kid. I often think about some of the knives that my grandfathers gave me that I no longer have because of that. Wish I still had them.

I'm trying to find a Frontier 2 blade hunter that I bought back when I was about 15 or so. I paid $20 for it and I think it's at my parents house. I may have to take a trip and go find that puppy! I think my Dad may have taken it hostage!

My first lost knife was an old Case big barlow. The second knife I had to go missing was a switch blade that looked like it had been customized from a switch blade comb. I still think my Mother made that one go missing. She said those knifes were carried by hoods and hippies.

This was my Mom's Knife in the 1940's She busted out her front teeth and her dad gave her this knife to peel apples...I doubt I will ever part with it...

I had a Camp King, main blade, can/bottle opener, awl, and a lanyard ring, black plastic scales. I use to sharpen it on the back of the can opener, wow! did it get sharp. I don't know what happened to it, if I only treasured it then as I would now.

I can't remember ever losing a knife? I've sold some knives that I wish I kept. My first knife ??? I can't remember it? I do remember that I had a Scout knife but my Dad kept it for me. He would give it to me when I went to the Scout meetings and after the meetings, I'd give it back to him. I don't know what happened to it? I think it had the big blade, screwdriver blade, awl blade, and can opener blade. I think the brand was whatever the scout master told Dad to buy. Not a Case tho. I wish I had it now.

On my first big game hunt (12 years old) (1959) I shot 2 mule deer and an antelope, all legal, in the first hour of the season and thereby shut down my hunting for the rest of the autumn, except birds. When I field-dressed my antelope, I laid an Estwing hatchet on the rear bumper of Dad's pickup, and that was the end of it . Years later, I had the pleasure of taking my own 12 year old son antelope hunting, and he left a 1960's Marty Ruana M-stamp knife at the gut pile. That knife would have been a $350 baby now ! When I was a kid at the county fair, I learned that the carnies would take you up in the "bullet," and manipulate that car around until they had shaken out the pocket change and knives of everyone inside. Their buddies would grab the stuff off the ground and run with it. Lost my first knife that way, a yellow Case stockman. As recently as two years ago, I left my entire fanny pack full of goodies at a gut pile , but we drove back and found it. My partner was hot, because it was a 75 mile round trip, but when we got home I settled him down with some red beers!

Yes orvet, except it had wooden handles. Other than that, it looked exactly the same.

Here is one that was lost for a long time. There is quite a story associated with it , which I posted a long time ago on this forum!

That would be a model #4625, the Folding Hunter in the Double Eagle series.

Lost too many to count as a kid and still do it as an adult.
Very seldom do they turn up. Last one I lost was a brand new boker magnum automatic.
Was fishing in about 180 feet of water off Cape Cod. Darn things don't float.

Hello everybody...Boy did i ever!,Lose a knife as a kid that is!!! when i was 10 i lost my great grandads knife&my dad was P.O'd!!! i can only remember greenish bone handles,an early Case no doubt!...But thats not the knife im talking about,it was a buck 110 w/all the bolsters engraved w/my name,U.S.N.,ship name,etc. it was given to me by my parents when i joined the navy in 1976( i was 17,sent to me in early 77 when i met my ship),I was cuting rope and it slipped out of my hand and flew into the harbor water,i felt sick to my stomach as i watched the brass bolsters tumbling down,shinning like a fish lure! towards DAVEY JONES personal collection of blades,all the while the Cheif "Boats" saying "ya know irwin how many of those things are down there?" ya thanks cheif!!! so i went to the ships store and bought another one(almost got the new"mako"&"hammerhead" )But never got it re-ingraved well thats my story...and i'm sticking to it! ha ha

Not as a kid, but when I joined the Army at 17, I had to leave my Buck .110 at home and I think my brother confiscated it, as I never saw that knife again.

WOOHOO!!! I found a knife that I've been looking for. I've been hunting for this baby for about 10 years or so. I knew it was at my parents, but I didn't know where. I went to their house yesterday and got to looking around. I found an old hunting rucksack that I used for deer hunting when I lived in Georgia. I looked in the large pocket in front, and there she was!!! I bought this knife back in 84 or 85 at a mall during Christmas for about $20 or so. I carved my initials in the handle when I got it because it was my knife, paid with my own money. It won't get away from me again. One of my most cherished knives...

Good find T_T. Most folding hunter patterns come with the large clip blade in the back, yours has it in the front. Did the secondary blade come with it's point like that as well or was it modified? Your lucky, I've lost a few before that I'd really like to find.

Thanks hot tempered steel. That secondary blade was made like that as far as I know. It doesn't at all look like it's been ground down or anything. I know the edge looks weird because I took a fine file to it one time and got it good and sharp.

Not trying to be a martyr, but we were too poor for me to have owned a knife. That's the reason I collect now!!
