All About Pocket Knives

Can anyone tell me who manufactures knives
for Browning. I believe they're made in Japan,
but I was wondering if anyone knew the maker's
name. I have the opportunity to buy a small
folding, drop point hunter, hardwood scales,
brass bolsters and liners, with an engraved blade
(a hunting scene). It's labeled "One of 5,000".
The knife's OK...I may pass on it though as I'm
generally not too interested in lockback folding
hunters. I was really wondering what company
made them for Browning. Thanks, people.

I've had the same question for a long time, and I've had little if any success in determining who's made Browning Knives over the years. I've heard, just anecdotally, that the Brownings stamped "Germany", which I believe all date from the 70's and 80's, were made by Boker. This makes sense if you compare the Browning Germany knives, both lockback and slipjoint, to Boker knives of that era, and even today.

I have no idea who makes the Brownings with Japan on the tang stamp. I can tell you these seem to be of very limited collectibility. That being said, the ones I've owned are very well made knives and are made with quality materials.

The knives stamped Browning USA on the tang stamp are fairly collectable, and I've been able to sell a couple in the $100 range.

If anyone winds up responding with a lot of information on this subject, I will be very grateful for your post.
