All About Pocket Knives

Hi,

I'm trying to find out how many of the 1997 Case PocketWorn Red Bone Copperlocks were made with the floating dot tang stamp versus the standard 3 dot stamp. Which is more rare? Does anyone know the reasoning behind the different stamps?

Hi Jeff,

It is my understanding that the floating dot stamps were a mistake. In 1997, Case was stamping most of its lockback knives with this style. When the Copperlock came out, the first runs were floating dots, but for some reason Case intended or decided to use the standard three dot stamp. They switched sometime in 1997. I don't know which is more rare, but I would speculate that the floating dot knives will be more valuable down the road.
