Any special tools such as a small round file or narrow stone, dremel cutter wheel?. I do have a couple of stones from Lansky for sharpening serrated knives but they are way to wide for a really finely serrated knife blade.
Any thoughts or experience out there? thanks jlp.

I use a fine diamond steel that is round and tapered. I usually find them in the fishing section of a sporting goods store. After the diamond hone, I finish it up on a Power Strop "V" wheel that is made to sharpen gouges. I use jewelers rouge on the V wheel. Note the arbors so these can be used in an electric drill. I clamp my 3/8 Makita drill in a vise and set it on a slow speed then deburr & polish the serrations.

I get good results with this method.
When I went to find the Power Strop link, I found this Power Honer that looks like it would work on the serrated edges. Be sure to watch the videos too!

This is made from maple, so it should not be too hard to make your own spindle by turning it out on a wood lathe. You could make a spindle to sharpen any given serration pattern.
Just a thought. Might give it a try one of these years, when I get the time.

The spyderco sharpmaker is what I use for the kitchen steak knives that are serrated. You have two positions to place the triangular stones, either the flat side or using the edge. Using the edge of the stones at the desired angle hits the serrations nice. My wife thinks its pretty slick and has never had as sharp of steak knives as she does now.
