Hello from new collector

My dad recently gave me several knives from his collection which really sparked my interest in knife collecting. I'm getting a late start at 50 years old but I'm really having fun! I've decided to focus on the Case Canoe pattern. I've added a link that shows my humble collection at this time. If anyone can help identify those listed as "unknown manuf.", I would really appreciate it.

I added the link to my profile but it did not display for some reason.

Hey Tony,

Looks like you got a great start on your knife collection. ::tu::

Also looks like you have a nice shop well protected by that big yellow "watch cat".

Hello and welcome to AAPK tony0778

I enjoyed your photos of your shop.

So clean and put things back where they belong.

You must not have a wife or sons playing in your shop...

How do you keep the dist of all your things ??

Is that the cats job ? Is its name dusty ?

Sure does a good job of dusting... ::nod:: I will have to get a dusting cat too.

Thanks for the warm welcome! This has to be the friendliest forum (of any type) that I have been a part of. Regarding my shop, the cat's name is Tiger. I have never been a "cat person" but he came up last fall as a stray - thin and hungary. I just couldn't take that and started feeding him. Now he's my shop buddy! I have to keep my shop fairly neat considering it's only 12' by 12'.

I have to say that I have truly been bitten by the knife collecting bug. Do you guys try to buy local when possible or do you have a favorite online dealer? (If that question is off-limits, please forgive me and disregard.)

I buy local and I buy off ebay and the net. Anywhere I find what I'm looking for, that's where I get it. I don't have a particular ebay seller I favor. I've been buying several Boy Scout knives recently and they are easier found on ebay than anywhere else I've looked. Right now I have my eye on one (non Boy Scout) that is in one of the stores right here on the AAPK site.
I don't buy many high dollar knives, but if I did I would have to be very careful, particularly on ebay. There are a lot of crooks selling fake knives on the internet. Check out the "Counterfiet Watch" fourm and you will soon see what I mean.
If you live in an area where there's one nearby, you might consider joining a local knife club. That will provide you with face to face contact with a lot of other collectors and will provide you with a lot of good leads for local purchaces and/or trades.

Welcome to the site. I agree with you that this is the friendliest bunch of people around. They are also full of very useful knowledge. Don't be afraid to ask questions around here, you will be sure and get a response from somebody. Have fun collecting!
