New to the forum...old timer with knives, got my first barlow over 40 years ago...still have it even. I will be fifty in a few months and am semi retired.

I an not a serious collector, my knives run from the 1920's up through some that were made this year. I like both folders and slipjoints and have occasionally been known to lightly customize a knife in order to save it. I am not stuck on one brand but rather buy knives that either have a use I need one for or because I like the way it looks. Case in point is this Fight'n Rooster...didn't "need" it but loved the way it looked.

Other knives I own are family heirlooms, one such is this Remington that belonged to my grandfather.

As I said I enjoy rescuing knives as well, this is a Marble Expert from the 40's that I found without any handle material and with a broken tip in a tackle box at a garage sale. I re-profiled the tip and added a handle I made from cholla cactus.

I collect mostly fighters in fixed blades and have picked up several customs lately. In slipjoints I occasionally buy new but mostly I buy older used knives. Been on a celluloid kick of late. I look forward to meeting good folks here and send greetings out to all.

Glad you joined us.
I like the looks of those handles.
Not a material I am familiar with, but it looks very nice.
Looks like maybe you collect more than just knives. :)

Welcome, mate...

I, too, like cholla - haven't seen any of it used, in a long time. What's the filler material ?

Nice work,
JR

I used casting resin to fill the voids in the cholla, I have a couple of the Spyderco Mule Team blades, one of each steel released so far. I am considering doing cholla scales for them, doing each steel in it's own color but keeping the pattern the same. I think it could be a unique look for them.
