All About Pocket Knives

When I posted the topic of knife boxes LT & PAknives posted some ephemera so I thought I would start one just for the paper items, billheads, letters, calling cards, post cards, trade cards, catalogs etc. I love the graphics on some of these.

I will start with a few from a rare New York mark that H & J W King. Their trademark was a K inside of a crown. I have 2 knives from the company and I think they are sheffield made.

So if you have any so show us please do.

I started this post but never posted anymore after the first. I will start again and hope others will add to it.

David, your J.M.Vance label reminded me I had a knife made by them (or for them?). Hope it is O.K. to post it in this "paper" thread!?

That Andrew Case card is one I have seen before and wish I would have bid on when it came up, that was long time ago that I noticed it.

Since you put a Case in here is Andrew Case's calling card from Cattaraugus Cutlery. Indian girl on the front.

Also a Robeson Cutlery & Rochester Stamping photo with all the salesman throughout the country and a Christmas card from Robeson.

You are so right Charlie, Here are a few more. 2 Napanoch business cards and New York Knife Co calling post card. I picked up the NY Knife Co card at the Lakeland Florida show in Feb.

Those are some really nice examples of ephemera everybody. I especially like the Napanoch business cards, galvanic1882.
This is the only ephemera I own. It's a billhead for A. F. Bannister & Co. of Newark, NJ.

I always liked Bannister knives, had a few but not right now.

The first knife is very impressive. I wonder if any modern knifemaker would ever take a crack at trying to make a reproduction.

I would love to see that. Do you see on the one card it stated that it took 2 years to complete the knife!!!

2 years. That's incredible. I would imagine that they had more than one person working on the knife. Think about how long it would take for one person to do all that work by themselves!

I have one trade card that tickles me thanks to a tip from Mike.....but my @#%! scanner isn't working.

Great thread everybody. Keep 'em comin'. Mike, I like looking at the wages that show on those time cards. The average American's pay was about a quarter an hour, MAYBE a little more but not much.

How 'bout this Case Brothers handbill? Their names, from left to right are: John Bottom, Peter Schellhaas, Harry Niles(hey,MM, that name ring a bell?), Austin Pearson, William Bottom, Charles Gill and Walter Gill.

Here is a picture of a old Keen Kutter poster. About 2 ft. x 3 ft. It looks a lot better than my poor picture taking ability shows.

original wraping paper around remington knives. I think it was called glassene paper.
