All About Pocket Knives

Maybe this has been done before but I thought it would be neat to show some pictures of old knife boxes. I have a few and would like to see what others might have. Starting the topic will also give me an excuse to finally that pictures of them. My first is an old company from Elmira NY, home town of Carrier Cutlery.

Mike, You have some nice old boxes, and other paper and letters too ! Cool to see the ' autographs ' of famous early cutlers.

Many of the old cutlery boxes have great graphics. Here are my only two, plain, but I think I'm prouder of them than I am of most of my knives.

I've got quite a few older knife boxes, probably 40 or so Remingtons or maybe 30 or more various brands. Heres one I jut happened to have a picture of.

Here is my lonesome box, which goes with the knife and envelope below it. Being a marginally organized person, I decided against collecting the paraphernalia and paper. I can't always find the knife I'm looking for!!
Might have been a mistake, seeing how beautiful the boxes can be, and how much they've gone up in value (maybe even outstripping knives!)!

Just took pics of my boxes so I will be adding more in the next few days. Charlie I really like that La Belle. I had one once but sold it since it was not a NY company, sometimes I do dumb things. Anyway here are few more. I really like the button boxes as they make good displays.

WOW!!! Those Nagle Re-Blade boxes are unreal! Do you have one of those knives? I've seen pictures of them but never saw one in the flesh(or steel).

I don't have any pocket knife boxes(except some newer ones)but do have a few for kitchen cutlery and such.Here's a few:

A set of Aero-Flo plastic fruit knives
A Le Knife made out of duPont plastic.
A set of Rowoco knives from France with aluminum handles and brass rivets.
A "Safety Pea Knife" from an old joke company.
The last is a real old set of Wm.Rodgers table knives.The box art(which is why I bought the set;I am a sign artist by trade)is absolutely beautiful.

I guess not many people collect boxes!! I think they tell a story about the era's that the knives were made in and also they just look neat, especially with a knife from the same company. Here are a few more. The Casr Brothers is not a new box from the Case Classic's but an original. Still looking for a nice Case Brothers knife to go with it.

Beautiful boxes Mike! The Carrier and Case boxes somehow portray more pride in the products than modern stuff!

Here are a few more, I'll keep going till I have posted them all. I have about 5 or 6 different Cattaraugus boxes. The brown one is the only one I have ever seen. I think it is a newer box maybe the 40's or 50's.

I am with you I love the old graphics also. If I could not collect knives than old advertising stuff would be great also. Here's a few more.

And some more. These are for you LT, Poughkeepsie Cutlery hone and razor box. Inside is a hone that has a compartment for razor. The razor is marked Pocut.

I do have a question for you, Mike; the boxes that show "velvet" on top; I don't understand what I am seeing. Can you show them from a different angle, open/closed - something to show how they work??

Sure Charlie, I will take pics from different angles. The velvet slots on the box were a place to lay 2 knives in, one on each side as a display. The velvet part comes off or in some cases swivels open and than you have access to the place where the stock of knives is stored. I will take a picture of one with knives on display.

Here are 2 more. The one with the button is a Robeson and the other has a spring where the displayed knife would go and again with the area for stock underneath.

Nice boxes folks, Mike, your collection is unbelievable! Napanoch? Union Razor? I NEVER thought I'd see a box from either of those companies. Talk about rare!

Here's my one and only, and I have Mike to thank for it. it's a Shapleigh DE felt box. Charlie, these were set in display cases in stores with the corresponding knives stored inside. The button actually doubles as a handle to lift the top off, and under the felt "top" was the knife and price info:

He's got boxes, pin backs, letters, time cards.....

Like he told me....if you think the knives are rare...6 knives came in a box. They kept the knives and threw the empty box away.
