This is one of the largest lockbacks I've seen, really a handfull.

Hi Jim,
I'm curious about this knife. I see it is produced in Seki, Japan. Same city as my SOG Mini Vulcan. I was wondering if they are made by the same manufacturer. Do you know?
Also, what kind of steel is used in the blade of the Al Mar and what is the closed length?
(I have a bit of a weakness for big ole lockbacks)
By the way, I like the looks of it!

Phil, I can't remember what steel it has, possibly ATS-34? This knife measures a whopping 10 1/4" open. Really doubt if it was the same manufacturer. Goes on fleabay starting tonight.

Nice Al Mar.
I think you may have one of the old ones made when Al was still alive.
If that is the case they were made by Huhey (sp?) in Seki, Japan.
IIRC, that knife came out around 1988.
I have the first SERE fixed blade that came out around 1987.
I would not be surprised to see that go between $500-$700 if it is the older one & if the right buyer sees it.
