Friends...

Hi folks,

Just a short line to let my friends here know that I haven't forgotten you. I moved to Seattle in April and embarked on a new career. It's had its ups and down of course, but I am finally starting to return to the things I had to put on the back-burner with the near-wholesale life changes of this year.

Anyhows... I've been looking around the forums the past couple of days, reading both old and new threads. It's nice to see the familiar among you, and the new. So if you wondered where I went, I'm here now. And to everyone who wanted to trade me for that stag 'Tested' peanut, I still have it; still not parting with it!

Knife Talk, finally:

Sadly, I just found out that I missed a huge knife show in Tacoma last weekend. On the upside I missed it because I was at an auction where I came away with a ca. 1930 Marbles Ideal with the original sheath. Paid too much of course, but I'll enjoy the knife long after the pain of paying a 25% premium is forgotten. Anybody go to the Tacoma show?

Also bought my first GEC the other day, the #23 'Beaver Tail' with the single massive spey blade. I'm planning on using that to skin a lot of coyotes and bobcats this winter. Of course I plan that every winter...

I won't be around a lot over the next month, as I have a professional exam coming up in early November and every second counts. But I'll be talkin' to ya!

Best wishes,

Dan

Hi Dan,

I am one of the newbs but thought it was cool that you wrote to check in with your friends, I think one of the most important things about us in this racket is the friends we make and keep, I wish you the best on the test.

Hey Dan,
Glad you are doing well.
I wondered where you had gone.
Good to have you back.
Do good on your test.
Are you coming down to the Eugene show in April?

Dale

Thanks for the warm reception, guys. Feeling a bit of the prodigal here...

I'm currently cameraless, so pics of the nice old Marbles will not be forthcoming any time soon. I really am enamored of that knife.

I'm pretty taken with the Tidioute I picked up too. True to what I've heard about Great Easterns, it's a bear trap. Cost me a little divot of hide on the top of my left thumb, but lesson learned. I now take it to the half-stop and then reposition my thumb and forefinger on the back of the blade to finish opening it.

I fear I'm bit with the Great Eastern bug now. They'll never supplant my beloved and lamented Old Timers in my affections, but I am impressed. I think a #23 trapper might be just the ticket to replace my trusty Ka-Bar as a camp knife.

I know I just heard a few sounds of righteous indignation from my brothers in the Eagle Globe & Anchor contingent. I am flirting with blasphemy right there...

Dale, I will make the April show for certain if I'm still above ground and moderately ambulatory! I planned to go the the December mini-show, but that may not happen as I am in the process of buying another Model 70. That's going to blow my budget somewhere past the outer reaches of the solar system, and I wouldn't want to subject myself to the torture of going to a knife show with no disposable income!

Take care, guys! Back to the books....

Dan
